Dr. De Stefano
Dr. De Stefano received his medical and post-doctoral education from the Federal University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, where he also completed his ophthalmology residency and cataract and refractive surgery fellowship. He went on to further his training with a postdoctoral fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, during which time he worked closely in developing new diagnostic tools to better screen patients for refractive surgery and corneal disease.
After this research period, Dr. De Stefano pursued additional residencies and fellowships in ophthalmology, cornea, and refractive surgery at top institutions including Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. De Stefano’s extensive education and devotion to studying all aspects of refractive surgery have prepared him to provide high-quality care and deliver state-of-the-art care to the patients of Froedtert Hospital & the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr. Suson
John Suson, MD, is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with extensive experience in cataract surgery, advanced technology lens implantation and laser vision correction surgery (LASIK). After graduating summa cum laude from Marquette University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Dr. Suson attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), where he graduated with honors in research. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute, where he served as chief resident in his final year. After completing his training, Dr. Suson joined Suson Eye Specialists in Milwaukee, an independent practice founded by his father, Dr. Elieser Suson, who was one of the first faculty members of the Department of Ophthalmology at MCW. During his 20 years in private practice, he continued to partner with MCW in the surgical instruction of resident eye doctors. In 2017, Dr. Suson returned to MCW in full by joining the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Suson has maintained a commitment to continued development of surgical skill and knowledge, which he brings to his patients and the practice. He was among the first eye doctors in Wisconsin performing LASIK procedures, and today is among the most trusted and experienced LASIK surgeons in Southeastern Wisconsin. Dr. Suson has been board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1998 with recertification in 2008. Dr. Suson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, and the Milwaukee Ophthalmologic Society.
